Just a bit of antisemitism from Trump: he calls Mark Zuckerberg, who is Jewish, a schmuck, and a “true enemy of the people.” By Hal Brown, MSW

Excerpt: Former President Donald Trump spoke out against banning TikTok on Thursday, arguing that Facebook was the “true enemy of the people” and that such a TikTok ban would strengthen Facebook’s business.

During President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, Trump warned, “If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business,” in reference to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

“I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better,” he concluded. “They are a true Enemy of the People!”

This was the top article on HuffPost.

Mark Zuckberg is Jewish. The word schmuck, while in general usage, is most commonly used by Jews:

It is a pejorative term meaning one who is stupid or foolish, or an obnoxious, contemptible or detestable person. The word came into the English language from Yiddish (Yiddish: שמאָק, shmok), where it has similar pejorative meanings, but where its literal meaning is a vulgar term for a penis

In school I can see both his friends

and those who wanted to mock him sometimes calling him scmuckerberg. I admit the word is part of my working repertoire when talking to fellow Jews. One conveys what they mean by the word by context and tone of voice. In my experience, which does not mirror the experrience of all Jews, it generally has meant foolish rather than contemptible. Not everyone agrees:

Anyone familiar with these words knows that a schmuck is very different (than some other Yiddish words used to disparage people). In Yiddish and Judeo-English parlance, a schmuck is not haplessly inept like a schlemiel, an inveterate blunderer like a schlimazel or a pathetic sad sack like a schmendrik — all types one feels sorry for without being tempted to help them, since un-helpability is one of their salient traits. Nor is a schmuck quite the same as a jerk, because while the two have much in common, a schmuck is more dangerous and can cause serious damage, while a jerk is too ineffectual to do much harm. This makes “schmuck” a stronger term of opprobrium.

(More on commonly used Yiddish terms used to disparage people here.)

I have no doubt that Trump called him Zuckerschmuck because he knows he’s Jewish. He selected a term derived from Yiddish to refer to a Jew. This is antisemitism.

As this isn’t enough, Trump pairs calling Zuckerberg a schmuck with “true enemy of the people” a phrase which is straight out of NAZI propaganda about Jews.

On another matter, apparently Katie Britt didn’t get the message that Tik Tok was now okay when she said this in her rebuttal to The State of the Union:

Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party is undercutting America’s workers. China is buying up our farmland, spying on our military installations, and spreading propaganda through the likes of TikTok.

The CCP knows that if it conquers the minds of our next generation, it conquers America.

And what does President Biden do? He bans TikTok for government employees, but creates an account for his own campaign. You can’t make this stuff up!

Update to yesterday’s blog:

This is very signifiant:
