Doze-O the clown, Don Snoreleone: it doesn’t matter whether Trump really fell asleep as long as we have the likes of Jimmy Kimmel to skewer him with nicknames, by Hal Brown, MSW

I don’t know what qualifies someone to be called a fan of Jimmy Kimmel, but it would appear that one thing we know for sure is that Donald Trump watches his show and doesn’t think twice about how blasting him on Truth Social just gives him more publicity. It also no doubt pleases Kimmel and his writers.

Whoever came up with calling Trump Doze-O the clown deserves accolades.

You can watch the monologue here.

It is the best nickname yet beating out Don Snorelene if only because not everybody knows this is a reference to Vito Corleone the Mafia don played by Marlon Brando in the Godfather movies.

Thanks to Trump this is what you see if you do a Google News search for Doze-O the clown:

This is what Amanda Marcotte wrote in her Salon column Sleepy Don’s dilemma: Napping in court could help Trump win the case, but it hurts him with his base.

That Trump is just a man — and a tired, old man at that — is the information Trump is most eager to conceal from his supporters. His entire mystique to the MAGA crowd is based on their faith that he’s somehow impervious to the normal forces that work on the rest of us. His ability to project immunity from consequences for his crimes is a huge part of his appeal to his worshippers, of course. But he also wants them to believe that he is above petty concerns like sleep or eating right, much less that he’s affected by the process of aging. The aspirational fantasy Trump sells his folllowers is one where his bad actions and stupid behaviors never catch up with him.

For the present Trump is performing for the reporters in the courtroom (and the TV audience when he is outside the courtroom). Once the trial starts the jury’s eyes will be watching him closely for his reactions when there’s testimony against him, particularly when Stormy Daniels is on the witness stand. Every grimace, glare, and scowl will be duly noted by the jury.

When Michael Cohen testifies it will be worth learning how Trump reacted to watching the former loyal fixer who turned against him, when the other women, ex-Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal — whose alleged affair with Trump, the National Enquirer’s publisher admitted to covering up “in concert” with Trump’s campaign — and in a different way Hope Hicks, testify the “grab them by the pussy” former president who thinks he’s God’s gift to women may have trouble containing himself.

We don’t know whether Melania will be following the trial, but she will also be an unseen presence in the courtroom and Trump may wonder how she will take having her husband’s previous womanizing make the national news again.

Instead of trying to look like a sympathetic figure, which would be a near impossible stretch for him, he’s likely to look angry. If he expresses the anger he risks the judge holding him in contempt.
