Good Christians? House GOP is home for vacation and people die in Ukraine while Putin’s friend Trump hawks $400 lamé sneakers, by Hal Brown, MSW

I don’t know whether Trump colors his hair to match his new $400 gold lamé high top sneakers or colors the sneakers to match his hair. There are things I do know about the despicable MAGA GOP?

I do know that, as reported in today’s New York Times, that the Ukrainian city of “Avdiivka fell to the Russians on Saturday, after some of the most horrific and destructive fighting of the two-year-old war. In the end, Russia’s superior firepower and manpower overwhelmed Ukrainian forces over many months, even as Russia incurred a staggering number of casualties. Here’s just one quote from the article describing what the residents went through: “When the Russian troops entered, it wasn’t just a nightmare, it was some kind of Armageddon,” an old man said. “Blood, deaths, looting. Thirty-four years in the mines, and everything I did for my family, it’s all destroyed.” (Reference)

I know from other reporting that Ukraine is running out of ammunition, drones, and other arms because the House went on break without authorizing funds for them to be able to fight the invading Russians.

Some of the deaths described from Avdiivka could have been prevented if the Ukrainian forces hadn’t been forced to withdraw leaving the city unprotected.

So what’s more important to Trump and House Republicans than saving lives in Ukraine? The answer is attaching Ukrainian aid to a tougher border policy than was in the bill passed by the Senate and selling sneakers of course.

Trump and all or most House MAGA Republicans make a point of claiming to be good Christians and Mike Johnson says he’s a really, really, really good Christian.

It may be a cliché to ask the following about this but it seems appropriate: what would Jesus say?

If you don’t like the Christian metaphor, here’s another one. These Republicans are like two of the three “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” monkeys. They refuse to see or hear evil. As far as speaking evil they have no hesitation saying evil things when they lie about everyone they want to depict as evil.

From the HuffPost article bottom left: (my emphasis):

More than 200 arrests were made in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, the group said. Among those detained there was Grigory Mikhnov-Voitenko, a priest of the Apostolic Orthodox Church — a religious group independent of the Russian Orthodox Church — who announced plans on social media to hold a memorial service for Navalny and was arrested on Saturday morning outside his home. He was charged with organizing a rally and placed in a holding cell in a police precinct, but was later hospitalised with a stroke, OVD-Info reported.

Addendum:

Liz Cheney just called the Speaker of the House Moses Mike Johnson.

“The best thing that we can do right now is to pass the aid bill that the Ukrainians need so urgently to help them continue what they’re doing to defeat Putin’s army in Ukraine,” Cheney explained. “And one thing that’s really important, Jake, for the viewers to recognize and understand is one man, one man has the power in his hands to get that done. And that’s Mike Johnson.”

“He has said, and I take him at his word, that he believes that God has told him that he’s called to be Moses, and I think Mike Johnson ought to look at whether or not this is actually that moment,” she continued.
