I keep hearing about whether or not Trump can be held accountable for participating or engaging in an insurrection. Legal experts are using this term rather than saying “leading an insurrection” because of the language in the Constitution. If the Framers were prescient they might have changed the language to “leading or participating” but they didn’t envision a Jefferson Davis or a Donald Trump.
I intend this to be a short blog ending here. However, in looking for images to illustrate it I found two articles worth sharing.
The first article I found was “Jefferson Davis and the Constitutional Right to Own Slaves” by Patrick Young.
Here’s an excerpt:
Davis says that all Americans have a Constitutional right to free trade in every part of the United States. “That right equally applies to the transfer of slave property” he argues.
Apart from being Constitutional, Davis claims, slavery and the slave trade was the greatest benefit for the Black men, women, and children enslaved by Southern whites. While other Southerners denounced the international slave trade, Davis says that the shipping of captured Blacks in chains to America was a boon to the enslaved Africans
The illustration he used was “The Jefferson Davis Coloring Book”.
I looked up reviews for this and found this.
Here’s an excerpt:
It’s easy to make fun of stupid, obvious, silly racism. It’s easy to look at “The Jefferson Davis Coloring Book,” read about how the Civil War was really about states’ rights and how Abolitionists really made slavery a big deal when it wasn’t and just feel nice about yourself.
It’s easy to tut tut more obvious forms of racism and cast a blind eye to your own.
I live in white privilege every day, and I’m not going to stop. Any place I please will let me use the bathroom. I don’t get questioned or prodded when I’m going about my business. I’m more likely to get a job, less likely to have certain health statistics apply to me and, you know what? It’s just sort of swell. A lot’s geared toward me and mine. It’s nice to have so much of the world laid out for you.
“The Jefferson Davis Coloring Book” is silly and stupid, and deserves to be mocked. It will in the other blog (link in article).
But it’s dangerous because it is so stupid. It’s so obviously wrong, it momentarily distracts from the living, viable racism around every day in this city. It gives a bit of moral high in a city that needs to feel low in order to realize how much work needs to be done.

Of course there had to be a Donald Trump coloring book…. in fact a Google search shows he has more than one.
Here’s the blurb on Amazon:

Having coloring books about them is another thing Trump has in common with Jefferson Davis. Of course, Trump beats Jefferson by far:
