Absolutely, positively, undeniably full of s**t GOP desperate to make border crisis top campaign issue, by Hal Brown, MSW

The top article on HuffPost website says one thing (above) but none of those words actually appear in the article: Republicans Who Screamed About A Crisis On The Border Now Oppose A Plan To Fix It. Below in the above screen grab you can see the top article on the Fox News website (and an article about Trump being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize). Really! You can read about this in Newsweek (here).

Aside from my observation as to how often the S and F words are never spelled out in website article titles I note how in this article about the Republicans and immigration the title is an editorial comment which will only appear as long as this is the featured story.

The economy is looking good with gas prices way down, Biden is in fine fettle mentally and physically (especially compared to Trump), the Hunter Biden “horror” has ho-hummed itself away. Agents of the Deep State, Marxists, socialists, and Communists haven’t actually appeared anywhere and done anything directly to anybody (except the J6 insurrectionists).

Right-wingers still have their guns and nobody has forced them to be injected with Covid vaccine.

Bottom line is that all the Republicans can run on besides hatred of Biden and worship of Trump is the crisis at the border. The issue is perfect for them since it enables them to exploit the racism and bigotry of their base.

Biden threw a monkey wrench into their plans with his tough immigration bill and saying that he might close the border . They are scrambling to trash the bill (below, just now on MSNBC):

The problem with this is that the bill actually does address the immigration crisis now and the Republicans haven’t shown what their bill would include that wouldn’t include allowing them to drown in the Rio Grande or mowing them down with machine guns.

The Republicans, God love them, have a back-up plan that has been in the works for a long time.

In it’s own way it is as brilliant as it is bigotted since it is the impeachment of a Cuban-born Jew with the not-American name of Alejandro Mayorkas.

Lucky for them he’s the Secretary of Homeland Security so he actually has something to do with dealing with the crisis at the border.

I expect that the House impeachment hearings will get a lot of coverage on Fox News and mostly be ignored on other stations except when something newsworthy happens. It’s probaby a sure thing that he’ll be impeached and highly unlikely be removed from office by the Senate.

Mayorkas agreed to testify but never did because on the day the committee proposed he wasn’t able to attend. Here’s the latest news about this: Mayorkas mounts 11th-hour defense against GOP impeachment effort.

Excerpt:

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is defending himself from Republicans in a sweeping letter sent hours before the House Homeland Security Committee considers historic articles of impeachment against him.

Why it matters: Mayorkas, who details his long career in law enforcement, would be the first cabinet member to be impeached in nearly 150 years. But Republicans have made him their border bogeyman.

  • “I assure you that your false accusations do not rattle me and do not divert me from the law enforcement and broader public service mission to which I have devoted most of my career and to which I remain devoted,” Mayorkas wrote in the letter sent early Tuesday.

The details: Over more than six pages, Mayorkas touts his agency’s sharp increase in migrant deportations since May, highlights efforts to combat criminal trafficking networks and details his life-long respect for law enforcement — beginning as a child of Cuban immigrants.

  • “My parents experienced such loss at the fisted hands of authoritarianism that the American law enforcement officer stood as a tangible symbol of safety and the rule of law in our new home,” he wrote.
  • He also promotes the bipartisan border deal being finalized in the Senate, saying it would “make a substantial difference at our border.”

It appears to me that even more than their deciding to go after Hunter Biden and link him to the president, the Republicans have bitten off more than they can chew by trying to demonize Mayorkis. He’s not recovering drug addict. He’s an accomplished public servant with an impressive resume (reference).
