Contrary to common knowledge, in Nordic folklore while most trolls are ugly, “their appearance varies greatly; trolls may be ugly and slow-witted, or look and behave exactly like human beings, with no particularly grotesque characteristic about them.” (Wikipedia)
Trolling as a verb used to mean searching for something, for example a fish in a certain kind of fishing, or a recruit for your company. Then in the online era it was extended to mean “to make a deliberately offensive or provocative online post with the aim of upsetting someone or eliciting an angry response from them” (online dictionary). Now it can mean either posting something online or saying, doing, or not doing something that makes someone angry. An effective troll is like casting a tempting lure into the water and getting an unsuspecting big fish to bite, sinking the hook, and reeling it in to eat for supper.
Trump has no doubt taken pride in his being able to troll his enemies. Nikki Haley, by not bowing out the the GOP primary race, as out-trolled Trump.

Trump’s attack against Nikki Haley gave her the chace to say that he threw a temper tantrum and dare him to bring it on.

It wasn’t enough for Trump to attack Nikki Haley for having the audacity to stay in the race, but he also criticised what she wore when she gave her speech. He said “You can’t let people get away with bulls**t. And when I watched her in the fancy dress that probably wasn’t so fancy, I said, ‘What’s she doing? We won’.”
He just had to get in a dig at her appearance.
This was of subject of this NY Times article:
Haley’s Fancy-but-Not-So-Fancy Dress May Have Been Just What She Intended
“What Donald J. Trump meant as a barb at his rival, Nikki Haley, may have ultimately highlighted the look, and the message, she was going for.”

I have speculated about why Haley wants to keep running as long as possible (read recent blogs here). Bascially she may reason that if she keeps the heat on she can add so much stress to Trump’s life that he continues to show that he’s suffering from dementia by, for example, confusing her with Nancy Pelosi. Add this to his dictatorial ambitions she can score what I have dubbed a one-two knockout punch.
