Read the Catholics for Trump article here.
I was thinking about writing how Trump was a bad, bad person no decent person should vote for because of two things he did. One was the E. Jean Carroll assault and the other the mocking of the disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski.
We know that in the Carroll case he was found guilty in a civil trial by a predominance of the evidence, so whether he did what he was accused of can’t be said to be 100% true. I was thinking that in the mocker instance we knew this with 100% certainty.
Then I found the Catholics for Trump article which says that Trump wasn’t mocking reporter Steve Kavaleski when a web search turned up this Fox News article:

Excerpt:
Donald Trump, it turns out, is not very good at impressions — but that could be his alibi against persistent accusations that he mocked a reporter’s disability last fall.
Trump’s spastic arm waving at a rally last November while mimicking New York Times reporter Serge Kovaleski drew swift condemnation from opponents who claimed Trump was making light of a disability. It’s followed him ever since. The Washington Post gave Trump four Pinocchio’s for his denials, and Hillary Clinton used a clip of the impression in a video released Tuesday slamming Trump.
But a pro-Trump, Catholic website has compiled footage appearing to show Trump has a very limited repertoire of impressions — which the site points to as “evidence” he wasn’t mocking the reporter’s disability.
As evidence they show clips of using hand gestures to mock others who don’t have physical disabilities and also point oout that Serge Kovaleski isn’t spastic. You can watch the videos to judge for yourself but I’d say that the gestures he used to decribe Ted Cruz, a banker, and a general were mild compared to those used to mock Kovalski.
I looked at some of the 500+ comments which, as expected, were supportive of the pro-Trump anti-Clinton postion of the website.
Here is just one example of someone seeing what they want to see and expressing some George Soros paranoia:
Marcy: What he was showing was someone being frustrated! As atraditional Catholic senior rasing 3 grandchilden l can tell you l often ” throw up my arms in frustration and yell Aaaaahhh!!!
Sept. 26, 2016
I wrote for a newspaper back in the day when leaving out words or pictures that would change the whole story was a big NO NO! Truth was what mattered back then! No so in todays media! It is controlled by big money, one political party, and George Soros is behind it all!
I did find the following which were not supportive of Trump. I wonder what brought the to this website:
from Terese
Was Trump quoting the reporter or speaking for the reporter when he said, “aaagh, I don’t know what I said. I don’t remember, aaagh”?
Clearly, the answer is Yes. Trump is, judging by his own words, making fun of that reporter. He is in no uncertain terms mocking him. It is wrong to mock people, even if you have never met the person. It is NOT PRESIDENTIAL. I don’t want a President who mocks people, disabled or not, and particularly people in the media.
So, to recap, when Trump went spastic with his arms and waves them about and used a weird voice, Trump was in fact mocking the reporter and in mocking this disabled man Trump chose to use a farcical voice and hand gestures. I would expect a kindergartener to need to learn that this is unacceptable behavior. It doesn’t even matter if the reporter is disabled. Here you have highlighted exactly the reason we can’t have this obnoxious man in charge of the most powerful country in the world. If he can’t be trusted to speak with dignity in his own rallies, how can we trust him once he is President? Short Answer: you can’t! He is so thin skinned that any time he disagrees even in the slightest with someone, Trump chooses to mock and behave like a grade schooler. That is not the poise nor manner in which I expect the President, nor even a Presidential candidate to behave! Thank you for highlighting this series of bad behavior and showing us that it isn’t just this reporter who he mocks, but it is a pattern of behavior that he engages in anytime he feels offended.
(I will be surprised if this comment gets published on your site.) From Sept. 2, 2016
In this comment Lynn notes the length of the article:
Speaking of lies, how is this explanation (and the media leading up to it) any different than the multitude of videos, stills, and memes edited and used by Trump supporters to vilify Hillary Clinton?
Posted Aug. 2, 2016
It seems that the media and the Trump campaign (primarily Trump himself) go to great lengths (look how long this article is!) to justify and explain away anything that he does that is not looked upon favorably while at the same time, these same people are making every effort to do damage to Clinton in the eyes of the public.
I just don’t see the difference and truthfully, I’ve yet to see either one of them acknowledge any of the distasteful things they do.
Donald Trump has spent almost a decade defaming Obama, and now that his run is coming to an end, it’s time to attack the next person.
I don’t agree with a lot of what democrats or republicans do in regard to the presidential campaign but Trump is just as big of a liar but folks will forgive his lies as soon as he stands up and says it was not what he meant or it was sarcasm, or “whatever”. I don’t get it.
Here’s another:
I don’t think you are this monumentally stupid. I believe you are fully aware that the excuse you are making for Trump is absolute BS and you are just pushing your pro-Trump agenda regardless.
You are dishonest, not an idiot.
But we all know Trump was mocking the reporter simply by holding his hands in the pose that he did. The motions and stupid voice he made were not accurate mimicry because he was mocking, not mimicking. He was purposely presenting an unflattering caricature.
Any four year-old can tell you he’s making fun of the reporter. It’s a fact, readily apparent to everyone.
Even you.
Here are a couple of comments which take the website to task for anti-Christian hypocrisy:
You have to change the name of your group. After reading through your comments I can’t find a single indication that you ever know what being a Catholic means. You are giving real Catholics a bad name. As even the Pope has pointed out, there is nothing even a little Christian in Trump’s ideas, statements, or actions. We are not about hate or walls. We are called to build bridges instead.
Steve swartz
From Mary-Jo
as a Catholic I really don’t understand how you can support Trump. Do you know what Jesus preached? What Pope John Paul the Second preached, what the current Pope Francis is trying to do? Love each other. Strive for social justice and care for our community. Meaning help each other. The poor, the disabled. Do you even go to church? Who is your parish priest? This makes no sense. All of you Catholics for Trump write to the Pope see what he says.
Back to my two reasons why no decent person, or person who thinks they are a decent person, should vote for Donald Trump. We know by his own admission that he’s a foul mouthed man who at least once used what he called locker room language to decribe what he as a celebrity can do to women without consequence. He denies having done anything wrong with E. Jean Carroll and hence couldn’t have defamed her since he accusations were false. Trump cultists could say “the glove didn’t fit” and vote not guilty.
From the vast majority of the comments on the Catholics for Trump website I’d say that they were ready to cut him the same slack on how he waved his arms around and affected a mocking immitation of the reporter’s voice to say that of course Trump not only wasn’t mocking him but was Christlike in his love for people with disabilities.
Snopes softened the meaning of Trump saying he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters.
It’s true that Trump made the “shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue” remark widely attributed to him across standard and social media sites. However, the (somewhat clumsy and crass) comment also generally appeared absent of its broader context, which pertained to the loyalty of his followers, and not an actual desire, intent, or interest in shooting any individuals for the sole reason that he believed it would have no effect on his popularity.
Snopes
This is an attempt to get into Trump’s mind and the Snope’s explanation doesn’t consider the possibility that Trump has violent fantasies and that when he said this he was actually envisioning shooting someone, perhaps a liberal New Yorker, on Fifth Avenue and not losing any voters.
Of course if this was true then that would make Trump someone with psychopathic traits, and of course nobody would suggest that someone like that could end up being elected president for a second term.
Well, almost noone….
“Based on Trump’s public behavior and other available information, these experts warned that he appears to be a malignant narcissist, a pathological liar who is obsessed with violence, easily manipulated by praise and other ego-stroking behavior, indifferent to the suffering of other human beings, anti-social and anti-human in his values and behavior, irresponsible and impulsive and in total quite likely a sociopath or perhaps a psychopath.” Lance Dodes, MD, Former Harvard psychiatrist.

Trump, the heroic golf cart pilot, mocks John McCain again. By Hal Brown, MSW

In case you missed it, Trump has once again mocked John McCain for not raising his hand all the way when he voted against eliminating Obamacare. Of course this was because of an injury sustained in Vietnam. He was unable to lift his arm above his head due to an injury from an aircraft crash. (Read Key Moments In John McCain’s Life.”)

Trump displayed his delusional narcissism posting God Made Trump video and opening his Iowa rally with it. By Hal Brown, MSW
Hal Brown·Hal Brown’s Stressline
Update – Jan. 12, 2024: There was an article about this in The NY Times summarized in RawStory here. Below I suggested that the Dilley Meme Team made anti-Trump satire videos. I couldn’t imagine them being pro-Trump because the videos were so outrageously over-the-top fawning over him. Now after reading the Daily Dot article I am not sure. Perhaps they are really pro-Trump. This is what they wrote about the tweet below:
A pinned post on his account, from Nov. 25, 2023, shows what appears to be a picture of Trump talking to Dilley in a giant stadium full of fans, with Dilley dutifully saying, “Yes, Mr. President. The Dilley Meme Team has seen the video and will be shit posting it everywhere.”
Perhaps they are pulling a fast one on the narcisstic president and suckering him into giving them publicity. If this is their intention they have succeeded.Real Clear PoliticsThe Mary SueThe Mary SueRawStory
