For Trump and his cult Jan. 6th was the first (albeit losing) battle in the War For the Soul of America. Trump cultists should be outraged that their god is accused of “merely” participating in their righteous cause which the witch hunters call an insurrection, by Hal Brown. MSW

Once again George Conway has Trump and his laugh-fest lawyers by the short hairs..

Read what George Conway has to say here.

Excerpt:

“The third reason, I think, is the fundamental weakness of his position,” Conway added. “The fifth point in this brief, point five, Roman numeral five, is he didn’t engage in insurrection. It is not number one. The reason is, it’s because his arguments are very, very weak. If you look at the question in terms of president Trump should be removed from the ballot, it’s kind of a shocking notion to those of us who haven’t lived, until now, in an era where public officials engage in insurrection. But it was familiar to the people who enacted the 14th amendment.”

Here’s the Morning Joe segment. It is six minutes long but worth watching.

This is my take on this:

For Trump to claim he didn’t engage (with the key word being “engage” because it is so broad and the definition is “to participate or become involved in) is ludicrous… of course he did this, unless one doen’t count initiating a plot and then leading an insurrection as “merely” engaging, i.e. participating, in an insurrection.

The several thousand participants and the millions of Trump cultists screaming outrage at the witch hunt against their deified leader don’t consider January 6th to have been an insurection. For them it was a noble crusade.

Another article in RawStory (on the Plus edition) today takes note of Jan. 6th note being memorialied on the official 2024 Trump calendar.

A “2024 Official Calendar” published by Donald Trump Jr. comes replete with “Incredible photographs from President Donald J. Trump’s time in the White House.”

Trump-y historical facts accompany many of the dates.

You’ll learn, for example, that Trump signed Executive Order 13767 on Jan. 25, 2017 — “beginning construction of the Southern Border Wall.”

You’ll be reminded that Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court on Jan. 31, 2017.

But one date on the Trump calendar — available for $14.99 plus $4 shipping — is conspicuously missing any such detail.

January 6.

If January 6th was a date that the Trump’s “America First Patriots” engaged in what they believe was a virtuous and entirely legitimate battle for the very soul of America even though they lost. They see it as the first such battle. For them the date should be memorialized on the calendar. In fact, now that I think of it, Jan. 6th could be called the First Battle for the Soul of America since Trump is now engaged in what he wants everyone to see as the second ultimately winning second battle for the soul of America.

This has become more than a mere battle. If America has anything that one could call a soul meaning an essential nature or an animating principle we are all now engaged in a war which it isn’t hyperbole to compare to the Civil War of the late 1800’s, albeit without the muskets and cannons… at least not yet.

Back to the calendar… the most significant event in January for Trump and his legion was their great attempt to make sure that the winner of the election wasn’t cheated out of his rightful second term. For them their effort should have been celebrated on the calendar.
