GOP senators who voted to acquit Trump insist they don’t regret it.

“I have no regrets,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), who was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump on the charge of inciting insurrection in 2021. 

Her thoughts align with Ryan’s in that Murkowski suspects some of her GOP colleagues do have regrets about their vote. She marveled at Trump’s comeback, noting that many Republicans thought Trump was finished politically after the awful spectacle of Jan. 6, 2021.

“I think they’re looking at this and [think,] ‘It’s like a zombie coming back from the dead.’ He was political roadkill. Two impeachments and now these indictments — four indictments — and you’re telling me he’s the heir apparent?”

But Murkowski said none of her colleagues who voted to acquit Trump is willing to admit making a mistake, even in private.

I first read about what Murkowski said in RawStory. I decide to make a comment there and figured with no other ideas about something to write a blog about this Christmas morning I’d share it here.

Murkowski doesn’t know zombie lore. Zombies are already dead. Thus they can’t come back from the dead. What it is like is that a zombie whose been duly dispatched by having it’s head cut off with an ax or chainsaw managing to reattach its head.

I found the illustration (above) and posted it in my RawStory comment. Then I made two more versions with different backgrounds.

I don’t know how familiar Murkowski is with zombie movies or TV series. I am not a hugh fan but seen I’ve enough to know that those who write them are always trying to come up with new ways to kill them. If you do a Google search of “how to kill a zombie” you will find lots of ways.

I doubt that when George Romeo unleashed his classic low budget (and high grossing) zombie hoard to terrfy movie goers in 1968’s “The Night of the Living of the Living Dead” he anticipated it would spawn such a popular genre.

The movie  led to five sequels released between 1978 and 2009, all directed by Romero.

The best lines in all of the movies and tv shows I’ve seen comes in the first sequel to Night of the Living Dead, The Dawn of the Dead, as a hoard of zombies are trying to break into a shopping mall:

Francine: What are they doing? Why do they come here? Stephen: Some kind of instinct. Memory, of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives.

This demonstrates that zombies aren’t totally brain dead acting solely on their need to satiate their hunger for live human brains. They have a kind of instinctual memory that drives their behavior.

In some ways Trump is like a zombie in this respect. He keeps coming back to replay his old hits. He is driven to try to devour his enemies. Even on Christmas he couldn’t bring himself to wish the entire country, his friends and foes, a Merry Christmas.

Taking to Truth Social after a Christmas Eve spent lashing out at special counsel Jack Smith, the former president spread his attacks around and added a shot at President Joe Biden.

‘Even for him, a new low’: Morning Joe panel rips apart Trump’s Christmas freakout

This was a discussion of another Trump post:

“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against ‘TRUMP’ and ‘MAGA’ Included also are World Leaders, both good and bad, but none of which are as evil and ‘sick’ as the THUGS we have inside our Country who, with their Open Borders, INFLATION, Afghanistan Surrender, Green New Scam, High Taxes, No Energy Independence, Woke Military, Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Iran, All Electric Car Lunacy, and so much more, are looking to destroy our once great USA. MAY THEY ROT IN HELL. AGAIN, MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

“It’s two things,” Sharpton began. “I think it shows that these indictments and the civil case, despite his pretense otherwise, has gotten to him, because he’s reacting and responding in a way of no one projecting self-confidence or like this is nothing.”

“I also think it shows an inner kind of anger and displacement that he has, because who spends the holiday with this kind of venom, particularly when he is a guy that claims to be this self-confident, self-made guy with this kind of darkness, unless you are just that kind of dark person,” he added.

“We’ve certainly gotten used to Trump’s unorthodox holiday messages, ‘the haters,’ but this one hit a new low, even for him,”. : Lemire chipped in.

As a clincian who has spent an unfortunately large amount of my time trying to analyze Trump I’d add to the above that these Christmas messages represent a lack of impulse control and narsiccistic rage. They show (once again) how dangerous he’ll be if he becomes president again.
