It’s not a big surprise that Elon Musk reinstated the X account of conspriacy lunatic Alex Jones. Alas, with no alternative President Biden and I will continue to post there. By Hal Brown, MSW

Elon Musk Reinstates Alex Jones’ Account On X

Jones spent more than a decade harassing the families of those who died in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. Musk is now amplifying him.

Musk called himself a free speech absolutist prior to buying Twitter. This was discussed in an interview on NPR with Nina Jankowicz, a disinformation expert:

Elon Musk calls himself a free speech absolutist. What could Twitter look like under his leadership?

Musk is a procatureur, he’s a grenade thrower, he gets a thrill out of pouring gasoline on a fire and watching the conflagration.

If Putin opened an account and posted that he invaded Ukraine because it was a Nazi country Musk would probably allow it. If Goebels came back from the grave and posted antisemetic messages with images like those used in Nazi propaganda posters like these and Musk adhered to his free speech absolutism he’d allow this.

This free speech absolutist stance isn’t working for Trump. Unfortunately Musk has only his conscience to dictate what he does while Trump is held to account by actual judges.

Musk is rich enough, reckless enough, and malignantly narcisstic enough, to keep X going even without major advertisers.

Unfortunely X is still a useful communication tool with no alternatives for reaching a wide audiience and having anyone make replies. The platform allows images in addtion to text and the reposting of messages from others. If it ceased to exist many people who had worthwhile messages to disseminate to a wide audience would have limited ways, press releases for example, would be hard pressed to find one.

President Biden uses it and I use it. He has 33 million followers, I have 206.

These are the people and organizations I follow on X.

Below (click to enlarge) are the X posters with the most followers.

Trump manages number nine but hasn’t posted there since he was suspended and started Truth Social.

Addendum:

This is the comment of posted on the HUFFPOST article with the replies several hours later. Note that someone compared me to Goebels.

      • Henry Taylor 1 hour ago Goebels would doing what you want to do. He would censor speech he does not like. You are closer to Goebels than you think.
    • Alma Holzhert 2 hours ago Hate Speech !?!!
  • Noman Atall 3 hours ago Musk owes billions a month in interest payments on the money he borrowed to buy Twitter. Advertisers are leaving in droves. If it survives at all it will be the equivalent of a backwater dive where only the worst of the worst hang out.
    • Ryan undefined 1 hour ago Wishful thinking. Musk is too wealthy to hurt.
    • Peace Out1 hour ago…like (un)Truth Social.
    • ralph starkenburg 2 hours ago “will be the equivalent of a backwater dive where only the worst of the worst hang out.”. Similar to Breitbart? Got it!
    • Hal Brown 2 hours ago Unfortunately, as I also write, X is such a useful platform both the best and the worst will use it. Also, Musk is the richest individual person in the world. He can afford to run X at a huge loss. He can also fire even more employees and have it almost completely automated.
    • Alma Holzhert 2 hours ago Already is !!!
    • Protos 3 hours ago Worst of the worst is a compliment!
  • Susan Parker 3 hours ago 206 followers? You are “real” popular.
    • Hal Brown2 hours agoIt is a miniscule number but then again among the smart and insightful people who follow me there are about a dozen you may have actually heard of.
      • Henry Taylor 1 hour ago “small” but powerful. That is not how it works.

I post on X here to promote this blog. I also post on Facebook here and on Mastodon here. I welcome followers.
