Watch the video of Trump saying that he’d only be the dictator on day one .
HANNITY: We almost have to go to a break. I want to go back to this one issue because the media has been focused on this and attacking you under no circumstances. You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?
DONALD TRUMP: Except for day one.
HANNITY: Except for —
TRUMP: [John Kerry] is going to prison. Except for day one.
HANNITY: Meaning?
TRUMP: I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill.
HANNITY: That is not retribution.
TRUMP: I’m going to be — I love this guy. You are not going to be a dictator, are you? I said no, no other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After than that, I’m not a dictator.
HANNITY: That sounds like you’re going back to the policies when you were president.
I didn’t catch this live on Morning Joe but watched the replay.

I read about it here on RawStory: Morning Joe torches ‘sick’ Fox News crowd for cheering Trump’s ‘Day One’ dictator threats.
The twice-impeached former president appeared Tuesday night in a town hall broadcast on the network, where host Sean Hannity asked him leading questions to help him walk back remarks he’s made during campaign rallies and push back against reports that his second administration would be authoritarian – but instead Trump said he would only do that on his first day in office.
“Think about it, if any other politician in American history were asked a question, are you going to be a dictator, no – Donald Trump never answered it,” Scarborough said. “He never answered it, and when he said – I just want – there’s a sickness, there is a sickness among unfortunately some of our fellow Americans regarding authoritarianism and totalitarianism. They want it, because when he promised that he would be a dictator on Day One, he got applause.”
Hannity asked the ex-president to clarify, and Trump said he would “close the border” and “drill, drill, drill,” but he then suggested that he would act as a dictator on Day One.
Until I read further I didn’t realize he was talking about drilling for oil….
“By the way, what a stupid thing to say – ‘drill, drill, drill,’” Scarborough said. “What a stupid thing to say. You can tell he doesn’t read the newspapers, and the people applauding that don’t even read the newspapers. U.S. oil production – record highs. We are drilling more and producing more oil, whether you like it or not.

Above is the audience reaction to this. Some people laughed, others applauded, and as you can see (click to enlarge) others seemed displeased by what he said.
Trump’s “drill, drill, drill” promise and drilling for oil occur to me when I read it. After all, the need for more oil drilling in the United States hasn’t been a major topic of his or any other candidate’s campaign, most likely because gasoline prices have come down. I thought Trump meant military drilling. In a perverse and scary way, considering he aspires to be a dictator ordering troops to obey his malevolent orders, this made sense.
